Our team at Foundation For Economic Development recently saw a year’s worth of efforts bear fruit when the Uttar Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister YogiAdityanath introduced important changes in the state’s building byelaws for hotels. Under the new bye-laws, among other things, ground coverage will increase from 40% to 100%, building height restrictions will be removed, and maximum floor area ratio (FAR) will be increased to 5. FED worked with the state government on this reform, providing pro bono analytical support for shaping the proposal to reform the byelaws. Read the full article to know how the changes will help.

Growing up in a business household, Naushad Forbes read and heard about the gulf in living standards that separated countries in the league of South Korea, from India. That gulf, which was non-existent at one point in time - India's per capita GDP was the same as South Korea's in 1960 and slightly higher than China's in 1990 - has since widened substantially, to the extent that today, China's per capita income is six times that of India's, while South Korea's is 16 times more.
